Gladiators look to Capitalise in 2010
27 Jul 2010
After winning the Capital Bowl in 2009 the Gladiators are looking to continue their dominance of the ACT Gridiron League. Coaches and players have been in pre-season training since May, and a strict regime of fitness, strength and theory are making sure the Green Machine is primed for their date with the Tuggeranong Tornadoes at the 2010 Charity Bowl, which will be held at Greenway Enclosed Oval at 12.30pm, Saturday 28 August 2010. All are welcome to come down to support the reigning champions in what will no doubt be another hard-hitting and spectacular game of football.
The team has recruited well in the off-season, and now boasts a roster further strengthened by a number of new players and coaches. Of particular note are Assistant Coaches Rob Bourke and Jerry Passey, both former players with the Astros team that dominated the ACT and NSW Leagues in the late nineties and early 00's. In addition to their roles as Assistant Coaches, Rob and Jerry will both be padding up for the 2010 season, bringing their skills and more considerable experience to lead the guys on the field. John "Hollywood" Roe and Domenik Radman will also return in 2010 as Assistant Coaches to Head Coach Andrew Old, all of whom are seeking to capitalise on a positive 2009 season for the club.
The Club also boasts a talented crop of Rookies this year, as well as a number of players transferring from within the League. The Gladiators welcome these players, and their families, and encourage any people who may be considering a season in green to come down to training and have a chat with the crew. People considering a role with the Gladiators are welcome to contact the club president, Mr George Stosic, on 0411 221 007.
The Gladiator's annual Trivia Night will be held at the Western Creek Community Centre at 6.00pm on Saturday 28 August 2010. The theme for the evening is "Wild West", and all are welcome to come along for an enjoyable night. There will be prizes for Best Dressed, a Mystery Auction, as well as lots of fun and activities for the family. Tickets are $10 per-person, with a maximum of 10 people per table. Food and drink will be available for purchase on the evening. Enquiries can be made to Ms Rad Stosic on 0411 152 816.
